I seem to be in a funk...

Too many things to do, no initiative or energy to get at them. I have several sewing/quilting jobs to get at. I go to my blog to post every day and just can't seem to come up with anything worth talking about. I am really dragging my feet with my painting(house)...I need to get motivated to get in shape...

Funny how this cartoon seemed humorous before Christmas; now, not so much.

However this being January, and also being Monday I was motivated to at least get in a bit of exercise. I walked 4.5 km today. The weather was quite mild and it was good inspiration to get out and let the wind blow the dust off me and burn a few calories. Once again my mind turned to thoughts of others less fortunate than I who would give anything to be able to get out and walk and yet I regard it as a penance. I really need to focus on how fortunate I am to be able to walk in a safe environment, with fresh air, good nourishment, and relatively good health.

I have been working on a pillow for my Son In Law's birthday, and also trying to finish up a quilt for my Grandson. He turned 21 just 3 days after Christmas. TWENTY ONE! How in the word did that happen so fast? Hopeful I will have pics to show soon.
I had a few errands to do in town today and what a spectacular view I had from the grocery store parking lot...

The most vivid rainbow that showed both ends.

For awhile there were two rainbows quite visible, with just a hint of a third...beautiful at any time of the year, but almost unheard of in January in Northern New Brunswick Canada!

Just another reason to smile today...

Mr O and I need to find our groove. We seem to be aimlessly drifting through our day and we can't have that!

This retirement thing is taking a bit of adjusting on both our parts...it is hard to get some kind of schedule to the day. I almost never know what day of the week it is, and the time...well forget it! I am totally confused...we are getting up later than normal, staying up later...

It seems like every day is Saturday!

I have had my day completely to myself since the last of our children left the nest and that has been about 20 years, and now all of a sudden I am not alone in the house during the day. It seems I really don't have any time to quilt. It also seems I am constantly making a meal or cleaning up from it...I am not complaining, just sayin' it will take some getting used to.

The trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off.

  1. Yes, sounds like you're just going through an adjustment to a big change in your life. It's good you got out for a walk. It always helps me feel better.

  2. Wendy,

Goodness, I don't think it has even been a month of retirement yet, has it? It will take some time to get into a routine. Plus this is one of those funny times of year anyway. I think you should disregard the paining, etc. and just make a fun, fun quilt project, like another Schnibble or something.

  3. Love the rainbows!! Beautiful! Don't worry Wendy. Retirement DOES take some time to adjust to- for both of you. I too found a big change when there was "someone else" around the house all day... It does get better - you'll both establish your own routines. Hopefully Mr O. has some hobbies? And I too go through "funk" periods with nothing much to say on the blog. Don't worry.. we all go thru it...

  4. Wow...strangest thing reading your blog tonite...i just shared with rocky on the weekend my fear of how we will adjust together in retirement and all the things you just shared are the exact things that I said I thought might happen and how would I handle it... now im scared. Keep workin at it and you can give me all the answers! And good for you to get out and get yourself motivated.i think it is important that you each make and keep your own new routines. And whatever u do, dont remove quilting from it!!! But I must say I am worried about that cause I find I never feel comfortable spending time at my machine when rocky is home...hmmmm what will we do???
